Seeing the light

I finally got a set of studio strobes and started playing last night. I didn't spend TOO much time on different lighting setups, but I liked this one.

Believe it or not, that wasn't shot against a white seamless background. It was a gray cinderblock wall in my basement. I just bomboarded it with light!

Very cool. So what Bees did you get (and duh, what color?!)?. I am thinking about the digibee kit only upgrading one b400 to an 800. I'm not sure if that will be what I need, though.

I got three AB800s with a large softbox and a medium softbox and a set of 4 grids. And I went with basic black. I heard black was slimming ;-) (actually, I got black in case I was shooting into an umbrella or something that I didn't have a wild color reflected in the eyes or something like that. And, I thought they looked a little more professional... but that's just me.)

I've also heard a good suggestion. Someone once said, buy three different colors. If you have an assistant, you can direct them to move or adjust a light by telling them which color to move.

I'll have to post a picture I did with a single light source and a piece of foam core for frontal reflection. I'll see if I can make my next PhotoCast about the Bees and why I got what I did and stuff like that.
